EUROPEAN Central Bank (ECB) chief Mario Draghi was showered in confetti yesterday by a protester shouting: “End ECB dictatorship!”
The young woman, wearing a T-shirt denouncing “dick-tatorship,” was seized by security guards and dragged off.
Observers took to Twitter after the conference accusing Mr Draghi of making up for the “excitement” of the protest by making his speech even more boring than usual.
The top banker, whose institution wields huge power over economic decision-making in the EU but is not accountable to any elected authority, used the conference to claim that the eurozone economies were slowly recovering from the 2008 financial crash.
He said the ECB would stick to its plan to hand banks over €1 trillion (£717 billion) in quantitative easing funds in a bid to promote lending for growth.
And he praised Spain for labour-market “reforms” that have included massive wage cuts and attacks on pensions.
