TRANSPORT Minister Claire Perry came under fire yesterday for travelling to a rail summit by a chartered train costing tens of thousands of pounds.
Rail expert Lord Berkeley claimed a special service put on from Ashford to Hastings would have cost £50,000 and was used to pick up Tory prospective parliamentary candidates.
The Labour peer questioned whether the Conservative Party would be paying any of the bill for the “canvassing” trip.
Lord Wallace said he was not aware of the incident but there were “well-established practices” on how cash was split between ministers and parties.
