Campus race row protests spread over United States

PROTESTS over racial attitudes at the University of Missouri that led to the resignation of two senior managers spread to other parts of the United States on Wednesday.

At Ithaca College in New York state nearly a thousand students walked out in protest at “the injustices students of colour face on this campus and other colleges nationally.”

The protesters demanded the resignation of college president Tom Rochon, saying he had failed to increase racial diversity, deal with racial tensions and had refused to fund a Native American studies course.

Demonstrations also took place at Yale University, Smith College, the University of Iowa and other institutions.

Meanwhile, University of Missouri student Hunter Park was charged with making terrorist threats after he wrote on a social media website that he would “shoot every black person I see.”
