Orkney 4 bid to oust leak MP

FOUR Orkney residents launched a legal bid yesterday to boot the sole remaining Scottish Lib Dem MP from office.

Former Scottish secretary Alistair Carmichael has come under pressure to quit after admitting responsibility for a leaked memo which wrongly suggested that First Minister Nicola Sturgeon wanted David Cameron to win the general election.

A crowdfunding appeal to raise money for an election petition to have Mr Carmichael’s election overturned has raised more than £43,000 towards its £60,000 target.

Petitioner Tim Morrison said: “Mr Carmichael has apologised to us, his constituents. It’s up to us to forgive him if we choose to in the ballot box.

“This should happen as soon as possible and certainly not in five years.”
