RMT ballot against member’s dismissal

Rail union RMT kicked off a strike ballot of staff at Edinburgh Waverley station yesterday over the “wholly unjustified” dismissal of a member for allegedly “missing revenue targets.”

The union claims Cross Country management “simply refused” to acknowledge Charlie Letham’s underlying health problems and ignored recommendations from his own GP and the company doctor before proceeding to sack him.

RMT general secretary Mick Cash said: “This is not a situation that can go unchallenged and is a shocking abuse of power demonstrated by the company management.”

Mick Cash said the ballot would ask all Cross Country members at Edinburgh Waverley for strike action and industrial action short of a strike, to force the company to re-employ Charlie Letham.
