Rail satisfaction drops to 81 per cent

PASSENGER satisfaction on Britain’s railways dropped last year, new figures revealed yesterday.

The annual survey, carried out by watchdog Passenger Focus found almost a fifth of its huge 27,000-strong sample were unsatisfied with their journeys, down two percentage points on the previous year.

Privateers Southeastern and Govia Southern and Thameslink riled passengers the most — with lowly satisfaction ratings of 74 per cent and 77 per cent.

The number of passengers who believed their trains were punctual and reliable also fell by 2 per cent, to 77 per cent.

And fewer than half of all passengers believed their fares were value for money.

Rail union TSSA leader Manuel Cortes branded high commuter fares “an absolute disgrace.”

“It is hardly surprising that passenger satisfaction is falling when commuters are paying record high fares for a worsening service,” he said.
