A man “left to rot” by his alleged slavemasters was made to labour unpaid and slept in rat-infested squalor for more than a decade, a jury heard yesterday.
Prosecutor John Hipkin QC told Cardiff Crown Court that “vulnerable” Darrell Simester — who was reported missing by his family — had been “forced to work against his will and under menace” by a father and son in south Wales.
His plight only came to light following a lengthy hunt for clues by his Kidderminster family, the jury heard.
Mr Hipkin told the court that Mr Simester’s father found him in “a horrific state — hunched over, barely able to walk.”
Daniel Doran, 67, and son David Dan Doran, 42, of Peterstone, both deny charges of forcing someone to carry out compulsory labour.
The trial continues.
