Man charged with George Galloway attack

A 39-YEAR-OLD man will appear in court today charged with attacking George Galloway in an incident believed to have been prompted by his comments about Israel.

The Respect MP was discharged from hospital on Saturday after he was assaulted on a street in London, leaving him with broken ribs and “severe” bruising to the head.

His spokesman said he believed Friday night’s attack was politically motivated. He said the attacker had leapt on the MP while he was posing for photographs in Golborne Road in Ladbroke Grove, west London.

The man allegedly called Mr Galloway “a Hitler” before delivering repeated blows to the head and chest. The MP, who also hosts a talk show on Russia Today, was taken to St Mary’s Hospital after giving a statement to police. He was discharged at 6am on Saturday morning.

Neil Masterson, of nearby Campden Hill, will appear at Hammersmith magistrates’ court charged with religiously-motivated assault.

“It appears to be connected with his comments about Israel because the guy was shouting about the Holocaust,” the spokesman added.

The Bradford-West MP declared the city an “Israel-free zone” in a speech made on August 2.
