PHONE hacking campaigners staged a demonstration yesterday outside the office of the media barons’ new press self-regulation body, branding it a “sham.”

Demonstrators held placards that called for “no more chances” as they gathered outside the Independent Press Standards Organisation (Ipso) offices in Holborn, London.

The campaigners included Paul Dadge, who was pictured helping a woman during the July 7 bombings in London and says his phone was hacked in the aftermath.

They handed in an open letter to Ipso which claimed it would not make “any practical difference to those who, as we have, suffer abuse by newspapers.”

It also states: “We are not surprised that Ipso falls so far short of being an effective and independent regulator.

“Before it was set up, there was no consultation with newspaper readers, working journalists or the wider public, let alone with those of us who have suffered at the hands of the newspaper industry.”
