HOTEL bosses in a Scottish tourist town have been warned that they may have broken the law by sacking staff and ordering them to move out of their housing just before Christmas.
Unite Hospitality has raised concerns after workers at the Fishers Hotel in Pitlochry, on the banks of the River Tummel in Perthshire, were let go without consultation.
They have also been told that they must vacate their accommodation by December 13, despite a ban on winter evictions in Scotland that is due to come into force two days before.
Some staff say that they have worked at the hotel for years.
Unite described the decision as “callous,” with organiser Bryan Simpson adding: “To be terminated in this way and thrown out on the street is not just a moral outrage, it's potentially unlawful too.
“We believe our members have been sacked unfairly and without proper consultation.”
General manager Brian Wishart claimed that staff will not be left without accommodation but failed to respond to questions about the lack of consultation and the implications of the eviction ban.
