A SCOTTISH health and safety charity called for “fairer, healthier” workplaces yesterday in its manifesto for next year’s Holyrood elections.
Scottish Hazards said that a radical rethink of health and safety is needed in post-Covid Scotland, urging parties to back its demands in the run-up to the elections in May.
The group’s 2021 manifesto outlines plans to promote safety and more environmentally friendly practices in workplaces across the country, including full implementation of the Scottish government’s fair work agenda and devolution of health and safety law from Westminster.
The announcement coincides with the beginning of Scottish Hazards’ online conference, Towards a Cleaner World and Workplace.
Under the charity’s plans, “roving trade union representatives” would also be allowed into workplaces.
Scottish Hazards chairman Scott Donohoe said: “Scottish Hazards believes that years of sustained attacks on health and safety regulation and enforcement agencies have led to many employers paying minimal lip service to their health and safety obligations.”
