Scottish Independence: Go it alone, say 500 Welsh Assembly protesters

More than 500 people gathered outside the Welsh Assembly on Saturday to urge Scotland to “go for it” and vote for independence.

Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood, veteran peace campaigner and Labour councillor Ray Davies and Welsh Green Party leader Pippa Bartolotti all sent their solidarity to Scottish campaigners.

Ms Wood told the crowds she was convinced that Wales’s time would also come.

“Although this is Scotland’s moment, Scotland’s one big opportunity, they have shown us what can happen when a country comes together in optimism, with hope,” she said.

“When a people come together with determination and self-belief and the confidence, to build a better future.”

People travelled from Carmarthen, Aberystwyth and Wrexham to take part in the Cardiff Bay rally, where speeches were made in English, Welsh and Scottish Gaelic.

Hundreds of signatures were collected in a good luck card and the event ended with renditions of the Welsh and Scottish anthems.
