Teachers cane Ofsted ‘no-notice’ inspections

Teachers hit back at the government’s introduction of no-notice school inspections yesterday.

National Union of Teachers (NUT) general secretary Christine Blower said her members “opposed the current Ofsted regime and the critical and punitive atmosphere it engenders.”

The controversial snap checks will see the schools watchdog take the measure of 40 schools in two weeks.

According to Ms Blower, Ofsted is already allowed to conduct inspections with half a day’s notice.

She said Ofsted shoud learn from “light-touch” regulation and promote “proper professional and respectful dialogue.”
