EIGHT hundred workers dumped by Phones 4U were offered a work lifeline yesterday by competitor Dixons Carphone.
Mobile phone retailer Phones 4U filed for bankruptcy earlier this week — leaving 5,600 workers jobless overnight.
But Dixons yesterday wrote on Twitter: “Pleased to confirm we have secured agreement to offer all Phones4U colleagues (circa 800) in our curryspcworld stores roles.”
Phones 4U founder John Caudwell blamed network operators EE and Vodafone for the demise of the company.
He said that the operators put in place a “co-ordinated attempt to kill off” Phones 4U when they refused to renew their contracts around the same time.
Both companies argued that their contract cancellations were caused by doubts over Phones 4U’s profitability.
On Wednesday, reports said that Vodafone and EE were holding discussions on whether to buy chunks of Phones 4U.
