Protests erupt over cuts to vital services

CONCERNED campaigners protested yesterday against cuts to vital funding for legal advice and community organisations in Glasgow.

Scottish Greens have also called on the First Minister for a long-term solution for Scotland’s lifeline services which are at risk, including Citizens Advice Bureau branches across Glasgow.

A multimillion-pound “transition fund” was announced by Glasgow City Council yesterday after officials had announced over 100 charities, groups and third-sector organisations would no longer be receiving financial backing.

But further support has been called for, with Scottish Green co-leader Patrick Harvie asking Nicola Sturgeon for a plan to help  organisations losing funding from the Glasgow Communities Fund.

He told Holyrood: “It is unacceptable that our most vulnerable communities face being hardest hit by the economic fallout from Covid-19, so the Scottish government must intervene to bail out Glasgow.”

Ms Sturgeon welcomed the transition fund, saying this provided an opportunity to ensure organisations have security long term.
