Crystal Palace 2 Leicester City 0: Foxes brought crashing back down to earth

No repeat of shock win against Manchester United for newly promoted Leicester

Crystal Palace made it back-to-back wins in the league after a comfortable 2-0 win over newly promoted Leicester City at Selhurst Park thanks to a quick-fire second half double from Frazier Campbell and captain Mile Jedinak.

Eagles winger Jason Puncheon was instrumental in both goals as his set piece expertise brought the Foxes back down to earth after their shock 5-3 win over Manchester United last Sunday.

City did fashion the best chance of an even first half through Jamie Vardy, with the goal gaping, he was denied by a brilliant last ditch block by Joel Ward, then David Nugent followed up with a curling effort which was deflected for a corner.

The hosts got stronger as the half wore on and created some decent chances to take the lead the best of which fell to Joe Ledley whose header from a corner was cleared off the line by Esteban Cambiasso.

Early in the second half Nugent was again denied by a goal-line clearance by Ward after good work from Vardy down the left then at the other end Yannick Bolasie’s cross-cum-shot was tipped over the bar by Kasper Schmeichel.

Frazier Campbell broke the deadlock from the resulting corner when he poked home from close range for his second in as many games.

Three minutes later, Jedinak doubled the lead courtesy of another excellent set-piece delivery from Puncheon as the Australian international rose highest to nod past Schmeichel to double his tally for the season.

The hosts looked the more likely to add to their lead and Marouane Chamakh, on as a substitute, headed a good chance over the bar as the visitors lacked the spark which saw them overturn a two goal deficit last weekend as Palace eased to their first home win of the season.
