Nicola Sturgeon said yesterday that more Scots would benefit from the country’s wealth if independence is achieved — but Better Together accused her of dodging tough questions.
Scotland’s Deputy First Minister said independence was no “magic wand” during a visit to a Glasgow foodbank but insisted it was an opportunity to “improve peoples lives.”
“Scotland is one of the wealthiest countries in the world, richer per head than France, Japan and the UK,” she said.
“It is a scandal that so many children in wealthy Scotland are reliant on emergency food aid as a direct result of Westminster cuts.”
Her visit came as the Yes campaign slumped in the latest referendum polling after First Minister Alex Salmond was grilled over his currency union plans by former chancellor Alistair Darling in a TV debate last week.
A Better Together spokesman said: “How can Nicola Sturgeon talk about how much money our NHS would have when she can’t even tell us what money we would be using to fund it?”
