Good ol’ Harry Redknapp has guided Queens Park Rangers back into the Premier at the first time of asking and will hope to keep them up this season.
It took a late Bobby Zamora goal in the play-off final against Derby to secure promotion and had they lost that game, chances are Redknapp would have been out of a job.
Instead, the former Tottenham manager will have another chance at managing in the top division of English football.
They have learnt from their mistakes in the last campaign, when they signed every player under the sun on very high wages in an attempt to stay awake.
They failed — miserably — and were left with unwanted players on really high wages. This time, Redknapp has added a mix of experience and youth in order to have a more balanced side which is capable of fighting at the highest level.
Rio Ferdinand has been signed on a free transfer after being released by Manchester United and is likely to partner Steven Caulker, who has left relegated Cardiff to join QPR.
Jordan Mutch has also been signed from Cardiff but the club have decided to use most of the squad that got them relegated so as not to disrupt the harmony of the dressing room.
The squad has two very good goalkeepers in Robert Green and Julio Cesar, although the Brazilian number one is still expected to leave as it’s more than likely that he will be the number two shot-stopper.
In midfield a bit of steel could be added but Joey Barton, if he isn’t sold, isn’t shy of putting a challenge in and alongside Karl Henry it is not a midfield that teams will want to get into a fight with.
Redknapp has been known for playing attacking football in the past but in the championship, it was more a case of getting the job done and it may be the same this season.
If they are to go for all-out attack against teams this year, they may find themselves picked apart and could end up having a short stay in the Premier League.
They are more likely to play defensively and try to hit teams on the counter, in the hope that Charlie Austin is able to bring his goal-scoring form from the Championship up to this level.
If not, Bobby Zamora is more than capable of scoring at this level and due to the collapse of Loic Remy’s move to Liverpool, the French striker can also be relied upon to find the back of the net.
Adel Taraabt is still on the books and has the talent and flair to beat teams single-handedly. The only problem is, he has a huge attitude problem and Redknapp may decide to cash in on him and bring in someone more reliable.
Though they have a good squad, it is uncertain whether they have enough to stay in the league this season. If they do, it will be down to the experience of the manager and his knowledge of the English top division.
