JEREMY CORBYN has joined 145 other MPs and peers to press for sanctions on Israel if it pushes ahead with threats to annex parts of the West Bank.
Their letter to Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab has gained the support of a dozen more parliamentarians since it was published on May 1.
MPs and peers from across the political spectrum have backed it, including former Tory cabinet ministers Lord Patten and Andrew Mitchell and Labour MPs Margaret Hodge and Naz Shah.
On Tuesday Mr Corbyn, a life-long supporter of the Palestinian cause, announced that he had also signed the letter, saying: “Annexation would be an act of aggression — and the UK government should make clear now that would lead to sanctions.”
The parliamentarians are calling for “severe consequences” including sanctions should the new coalition government led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pursue threats to annex the Jordan Valley.
It follows months of threats by the Israeli PM to impose its sovereignty over the area, which comprises 30 per cent of the West Bank, despite warnings that this would be a violation of international law.
