Police Scotland warns against drug pills as Rutherglen girl dies after house party

Police issued a drugs warning yesterday after a 16-year-old girl died following a house party in Rutherglen near Glasgow at the weekend.

The teenager returned home feeling unwell at 5am on Saturday morning and died several hours later.

Chief Superintendent Ciorstan Shearer said: “As it has been suggested that she may have taken some form of ecstasy-type drug, it is vital that we trace the other people who were also at the party to ensure that they are safe and well.

“Taking any type of illegal drug is highly dangerous as very often these substances contain a cocktail of ingredients which can vary from pill to pill.

“The effects can be unpredictable and can cause serious harm or even fatality.”

Around 50 people attended the party and police urged anyone who felt unwell after taking drugs to go to hospital for treatment or advice.

Three people were treated at the weekend for “serious side-effects” after they took tablets called Blue Ghost which they thought were ecstasy at the V music festival in Staffordshire.
