Islamic State militants beheaded journalist

ISLAMIC State militants have released a horrific video showing the beheading of US journalist James Foley.

The video, released on Tuesday, called the execution retribution for recent US air strikes in Iraq and threatened to kill another captive, US journalist Steven Sotloff, who was kidnapped near the Syrian-Turkish border in August 2013.

Mr Foley went missing in northern Syria while freelancing for Agence France-Presse and the Boston-based media company GlobalPost.

The car he was riding in was stopped by four militants in a battle zone that both Sunni rebel fighters and government forces were trying to control.

He had not been heard from since.

Mr Foley’s family confirmed his death on a Facebook page, saying that they “have never been prouder of him.”

British Prime Minister David Cameron interrupted his holiday to return to London, supposedly to lead the hunt for the executioner, who spoke with an unmistakeable British accent.
