Women journos face most abuse
Sexism: Female journalists receive three times more abuse on Twitter than their male colleagues, a new Demos think tank study revealed yesterday.
Male celebrities were more likely to receive — and fire back — online abuse though, with former newspaper editor Piers Morgan and controversial comic Ricky Gervais in the firing line.
Of the 94,528 messages for Morgan 8,258 were abusive while 1,190 of the 45,815 messages received by Ricky Gervais were abusive.
‘Best’ postcode in England is SP9
Postcode Lottery: The SP9 postcode of Tidworth in Wiltshire is the most “desirable” in England, Royal Mail revealed yesterday.
Marking 40 years of postcode allocation — something that “revolutionised” the way post is sorted and delivered — the privatised public service has published a table of the best places to live, based on crime, jobs and health.
SP9 was followed by the Hampshire village of Yateley (GU46) and St Bees in Cumbria (CA27).
New beer helps Eastbourne trade
Wish You Were Beer: A new ale has been created to help traders suffering since part of the 144-year-old Eastbourne Pier was destroyed by fire in July.
East Sussex’s Long Man Brewery has teamed up with Eastbourne-based Curious Beer Club to support businesses affected by last month’s blaze.
Profits up to £10,000 from the sale of the Craft Pier beer will go into a benevolent fund to help firms get back into business.

Death: A motorcyclist was killed during a qualifying session for the 2014 Manx Grand Prix, the race’s organisers announced yesterday.
Tim Moorhead crashed on the Mountain section of the course on the Isle of Man on Friday.
It is the second tragedy to hit the event in as many days after experienced racer Stephen Mcllvenna died in another qualifying session on Tuesday.
