Warnock signs for second Palace term

NEIL WARNOCK will have a second spell as Crystal Palace manager after signing up for a two-year term in south London.

The 65-year-old, who has been out of a job since leaving Leeds last year, beat former West Brom head coach to replace Tony Pulis at Selhurst Park, where he previously managed between 2007 and 2010.

Palace said in a statement: “Crystal Palace are delighted to announce that Neil Warnock has been appointed as their new first team manager with immediate effect.

“Neil has agreed a two-year deal and will lead the team this Saturday in our Premier League game at Newcastle United.”

Warnock left Palace for QPR in 2010 after two-and-a-half years in charge and helped them to the Championship play-offs in 2008, where they were beaten in the semi-finals by Bristol City.

After the Eagles went into administration he joined QPR and guided them to a place in the Premier League for the first time in 15 years in 2011.

Warnock was sacked in 2012 before joining Leeds but lasted just over a year at Elland Road, leaving in April 2013.

In March of this year he rejected the chance to take over at Nottingham Forest and also distanced himself from reports linking him to the Huddersfield job earlier this month.

Malky Mackay’s pen was hovering over the contract when former club Cardiff went public on a string of racist, homophobic and sexist texts allegedly sent between the ex-manager and his assistant Iain Moody.

Palace are reportedly keen to keep caretaker manager Keith Millen in the club set-up.

He oversaw Tuesday's 3-0 win at Walsall in the League Cup second round but lost league openers to Arsenal and West Ham.

One player who may not be looking forward to Warnock’s place in the dressing room is Jason Puncheon.

The midfielder was fined £15,000 and received an FA warning in March after launching a furious — and quickly deleted — Twitter tirade against his former boss after Warnock criticised a penalty miss.

Warnock, who signed Puncheon for QPR in September 2011, had told Talksport “there’s no way I would’ve him with a penalty … not in a million years.”
