Hundreds protest outside US's London embassy to oppose Trump's ‘deplorable’ Middle East ‘deal’

PALESTINIAN protesters rallied outside the US embassy in London on Saturday to oppose President Donald Trump’s “deplorable” Middle East “deal”.

Hundreds gathered outside the embassy in Nine Elms, south-west London, chanting Palestinian resistance songs and holding up signs proclaiming “Palestine is not for sale.”

Protesters condemned Mr Trump’s deal, which offers Israel a wish-list of its long-held demands while denying Palestinians a viable state.

The protest was called by Palestinian groups including the General Union of Palestinian Students UK (GUPS) and supported by organisations such as Stop the War Coalition and Friends of al-Aqsa.

GUPS official Fouad Shaath said that the aim of the protest was to “send a message from young Palestinians that we reject the deal.”

He told the Morning Star: “We believe the deal is just to help the settlers to steal more land.

“The international community accepts that the settlements are illegal. But now we have Trump, who is refusing to recognise international law — all so that he can use our cause for his own political benefit.”

Heavily armed police oversaw the demonstration while a counter-protest by three zionists was held nearby.

Mr Trump’s “deal”, which was unveiled at a White House launch last week, grants Israel sovereignty over its illegal settlements and green-lights annexation of the Jordan Valley.

Jerusalem would be appointed the “undivided” capital of Israel, with Palestine’s capital consigned to a suburb inside the West Bank — separated from the al-Aqsa mosque by the apartheid wall.

The proposals were drafted without the input or support of the Palestinian leadership, which has called the so-called Deal of the Century the “slap of the century.”
