Men's Football Ramsbottom have a Gooden as they beat City of Liverpool

CITY of Liverpool fell to defeat at the hands of Ramsbottom United for the second time this season in an entertaining game on Saturday, where Rams winger Iyrwah Gooden was star of the show.

Only eight minutes were on the clock when Rams skipper Tom Kennedy played a deep curling ball in from the left, which was met at the back stick by Gooden to put the visitors ahead.

It was short-lived however, as the Purps restored parity when Anthony Brown looped Kevin McEllin’s deep free-kick towards the far post for Liam Hynes to bundle home his first Purps goal.

After a couple of chances where the home side could have gone ahead, Rams restored their lead and again Gooden was the scorer.

The winger slid home in fortuitous fashion after Nic Evangelinos’ tee-up was sliced to his feet by Eddie Moran.

The Rams went in at the break two ahead when Josh Hmami volleyed home a dangerous free-kick from Kennedy from close range.

After the interval, the visitors increased their lead again through Hmami who bundled home a low corner from close range.

It was then left to man of the match Gooden to grab his hat-trick after Eddie Moran pick-pocketed the ball in the Purps midfield, playing it to Gooden who placed the ball home.

Purps top-scorer Elliott Nevitt grabbed a late consolation with a smart finish across Brad Wade, but it was too little too late as the Rams deserved the three points.
