Jennie Formby announces cancer treatment has worked

LABOUR’s general secretary Jennie Formby announced yesterday that she is free from cancer.

Ms Formby announced her news on Twitter and said that her treatment had been successful and that the cancer had “hopefully” completely gone.

Ms Formby announced that she had breast cancer in March 2019 in the week that she started receiving treatment.

However, she balanced this treatment with a “realistic” workload, and maintained her close working relationship with party leader Jeremy Corbyn and other staff.

She said: “My treatment finished in December so (hopefully) I’m now cancer free.

“My family and I have been overwhelmed by the kindness and solidarity shown by so many over the last nine months and I would like to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your support.”

Labour Party chairman and potential leadership candidate Ian Lavery expressed his relief, tweeting: “Jennie, you’re an absolute legend. Best of wishes to you and your lovely family.”
