Four million more people watched the Great British Bake-off over England game

Fans would rather watch cooking than national side

England may have won the battle on Wednesday night against Norway in a dull 1-0 victory but they lost the war in TV viewing figures as 4 million more people decided to watch the Great British Bake-off.
Fans chose to stay away from Wembley, with just over 40,000 fans showing up at the stadium, and even more opted to watch the bake-off, with audience figures of 8.3 million compared to the 4.5 million that saw Wayne Rooney score the only goal of the game.
The Football Association and national team manager Roy Hodgson have put the low figures down to fans losing trust with the squad and have arranged glamorous friendlies against the likes of Spain, France and world champions Germany as an attempt to drag supporters back to Wembley.
One solution to solve the problem is to play games across the country but the FA says all games will have to be played at Wembley for at least the next decade in order to pay off the stadium’s debt.
