FOOTBALL: Chelsea have announced the signing of midfielder Mario Pasalic from Hajduk Split.
The 19-year-old, who was named in Croatia’s provisional 30-man World Cup squad, will join up with Jose Mourinho’s squad for its first pre-season training session this afternoon.
“I am a central midfielder, my favourite player is Frank Lampard and so I am very happy to be a Chelsea player,” said Pasalic.
RUGBY: Former Bradford prop Nick Scruton has signed a new two-year contract to remain at Wakefield until the end of 2016.
The 29-year-old joined the Wildcats from Bradford in March on a deal to the end of the season and is delighted to extend his stay after rediscovering his form.
“From the moment I got here I knew it was a club that I wanted to spend the next couple of years at,” said Scruton.
FOOTBALL: Manchester United’s Patrice Evra is weighing up a move to Italian champions Juventus.
The 33-year-old currently extended his contract at the Manchester club for another season but it seems that the arrival of England’s Luke Shaw has caused the Frenchman to look elsewhere for first-team football.
Juventus have approached Manchester United about a possible deal but no official bid has yet to be made.
CYCLING: Lars Boom of the Netherlands prevailed amid the carnage, which saw defending champion Chris Froome abandon the Tour de France due to injury, to win a thrilling fifth stage over the cobbles of northern France yesterday.
Boom (Belkin) was in the day’s breakaway and proved the strongest over the cobbles on an epic day’s racing to win by 19 seconds from Vincenzo Nibali and his Astana teammate Jakob Fuglsang.
