York-dwelling couple trapped in Gaza

A PALESTINIAN couple who lived in York are trapped in Gaza as Israel continues its military onslaught against the enclave.

Fadi and Heba Hania lived in York for 18 months and one of their children was born in the city.

They returned to Gaza last year after Fadi completed his studies in computing.

York Palestine Solidarity Campaign supporter John Bibby said: “Now they are terrified in Gaza. Last week an Israeli bomb dropped just 50 metres from their house. Since then I have not heard from them.”

Another Palestinian former York student, Alaa Murad, returned to Gaza last year.

He contacted friends in York saying: “Gaza is under barbaric Israeli sea, land and air attack. More than 86 people were brutally killed. Most of them are innocent children and women, while more than 600 persons were injured.”

Palestine supporters in York will demonstrate in St Sampson’s Square at 2pm on Saturday.
