Rail bosses end sit-down meals on Great Western trains

RAIL bosses are to launch an attack on jobs by abolishing sit-down meals on the intercity Great Western Railway.

But transport union RMT plans to give the plans the chop with a campaign of resistance.

First Great Western wants to scrap Travelling Chef services on new trains being introduced in November.

Dining facilities would be replaced with seats to cram in more passengers.

RMT said the move was a forerunner to more job cuts, including guards, and vowed to save the dining service.

Acting general secretary Mick Cash said: “RMT is appalled at the attack by the highly-profitable First Great Western on the Travelling Chef service, which is not only a kick in the teeth for staff but also shows complete and utter contempt for the quality of passenger services in the name of greed and profit.”
