Paul Flynn tables motion against paltry Maclean punishment

CAMPAIGNING MP Paul Flynn rallied the House of Commons against the Lords yesterday following the disgraceful “punishment” handed out to Cayman Islands lobbyist David Maclean.

Mr Flynn tabled an early day motion stating that the Lords had proven it was “not fit to discipline its members” after its privileges committee asked only for an apology from Lord Maclean — also known as Baron Blencathra — despite him signing a £12,000-a-month contract to schmooze MPs and government officials for the notorious tax haven.

The decision will “further deepen public cynicism on the conduct of parliamentarians,” Mr Flynn’s motion states.
