A QUARTER of Britain’s workers remain stuck in low pay for 10 years or more, the Work Foundation revealed yesterday.
The shocking study came as a survey for the Unite union revealed that a third of people on the minimum wage can’t afford to shop near their workplace.
It also found that less than a quarter of workers believed that their employer couldn’t afford to give them a pay rise.
Unite assistant general secretary Steve Turner said that “big business should hang its head in shame.”
The Work Foundation urged the government to step in and tightening employment regulations, including stricter rules on zero-hours contracts.
It said government departments and councils should set a better example, making sure that all staff receive at least the living wage.
