JAILED former Brazilian president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has urged Labour members to fight for “the creation of a better world.”
In a letter addressed to Young Labour published in Tribune, the socialist leader — known universally as Lula — thanked members of the organisation for making him its honorary president last October.
He said that the decision, which was made to raise awareness of the trumped-up corruption case against him, had “rejuvenated” him while he was imprisoned.
The letter said: “This honour proves, above all, that one is only old when he abandons the dreams of his youth, and I will never abandon mine.
“It also proves that injustice exists everywhere, and that workers’ struggles are the same around the world.”
Lula ended the letter by saying: “One day, justice will be done and I will leave prison all the more willing to fight for our dream, the one shared by young people of all ages: the creation of a better world.”
The letter was delivered to Young Labour by Victor Marques of Lula’s Workers Party.
