EGYPT’S chief prosecutor charged 20 suspected militants at the weekend with carrying out terrorist attacks that killed seven people and wounded more than 100.
Hisham Barakat’s office said that the suspects belonged to a terror group called Ajnad Misr (Soldiers of Egypt), which started its attacks after the removal of Islamist president Mohammed Morsi a year ago.
The suspected militants were said to have planted explosives around police stations and security checkpoints.
Mr Barakat’s office said that 14 suspected Ajnad Misr members were in custody while six others were on the run.
The group has claimed responsibility for a number of attacks since November, including bomb blasts that took place outside a presidential palace.
Three people, including two children, were killed at the weekend when insurgent-fired rockets targeting security forces struck civilian homes in the town of Sheikh Zuwayed.
Soldiers also reported killing 26 suspected militants and arresting more than 50 others in northern Sinai.
