CONTRACT cleaners’ fight for workplace justice will “spill out onto the streets” today as they strike against heavy workloads and bullying bosses.
Rail union RMT said cleaners employed by Interserve at London’s St Pancras International station were being “treated like meat” and transferred from one undercutting profiteer to another.
Staff complained that employers have insisted the station be cleaned to the same standard as before but with a third less staff.
“They call it efficiency — we call it harassment,” said a union source.
RMT has demanded that bosses agree staffing levels with negotiators, reduce workloads and treat employees with respect.
“It is a disgraceful stain on London as a world-class capital city,” said RMT acting general secretary Mick Cash.
“RMT will not tolerate a situation where these cleaners are kicked from pillar to post behind closed doors. Their dispute will be the first thing visitors to London will see on their arrival.”
