Four election workers among 11 killed by polling day bus bomb in Aybak, Afghanistan

Another 47 die in election day violence around the country

At least 11 people including four election workers were killed in a bomb attack in Samangan provincial capital Aybak, Afghanistan, on Saturday.

Samangan governor Khairullah Anosh said the attackers blew up a bus.

The blast came after polls closed in the second round of the presidential election and killed six women, four men and a child.

“Three local election commission workers and two observers were among them,” said Mr Anosh.

Elsewhere, 47 people died in election day violence, including 20 civilians and an election commission worker.

Police said yesterday that they raided a building in Kandahar province and two would-be suicide bombers were shot dead.

But officers were unable to prevent another two from blowing themselves up, killing three police and wounding two others.

And in Herat province, 11 people had their ink-stained fingers chopped off by the Taliban as a punishment for voting.
