CRIME: The father of a man killed in the Birmingham riots has called for a public inquiry into the conduct of the police’s murder investigation after a report found the case had been mishandled.
Tariq Jahan called West Midlands Police’s inquiry into the deaths of his son Haroon Jahan and brothers Shazad Ali and Abdul Musavir “a complete shambles.”
“We seem to be left with nothing, no justice, no clarity and we need transparency for the ordinary people sitting here,” he said. “I need to know why all of this happened.”
CRIME: A serial armed robber dubbed the “Skull Cracker” was caught yesterday after going on the run for the third time.
Michael Wheatley went missing on Saturday after he was released on a temporary licence from an open prison in Kent but caught after he and another man allegedly robbed a building society in Surrey.
They were arrested in east London.
POLICING: London police officers will wear a tiny camera on their uniform in a trial aimed at boosting trust and accelerating convictions, the Met confirmed yesterday.
Five hundred cameras have been distributed to capture evidence at scenes of crime and help support prosecution cases.
