Man City 2 West Ham 0
by Kadeem Simmonds
Manchester City completed a league and cup double after they won their second Premier league title in three years after a comfortable 2-0 victory over West Ham.
The League Cup winners secured the title in style with goals from Samir Nasri and captain Vincent Kompany confirmed what everyone across the country knew after their 4-0 victory over Aston Villa last week.
City started the season as favourites and despite spending much of the campaign behind Liverpool and Chelsea, they came out on top in the end and few can argue that they are worthy champions.
It seemed impossible a little over a month ago when Philippe Coutinho’s goal gave Liverpool victory over the Citizens but Manuel Pellegrini’s men never gave up hope and fought until the very end.
And a year ago City fan’s made it clear they did not want the Chilean to take over from Roberto Mancini but the title win has silenced those critics by delivering what they crave the most from their rivals Manchester United.
The Blues went into the final day of the season needing only a draw to lift the title but from the whistle set out to dominate and gain maximum points.
Pellegrini named an attacking line-up by recalling Sergio Aguero and City went at West Ham from the off.
Mid-way through the first-half Kolarov produced a terrific left-footed shot from 25-yards which had West Ham keeper Adrian at full stretch to tip it over the bar.
And it was only a matter of time before the home side took the lead. Nasri was given far to much space on the edge of the box and his low shot beat Adrian and found the bottom right-hand corner, giving his side the lead.
City could have doubled the score on the stroke of half-time but David Silva’s shot was deflected onto the bar by former Liverpool striker Andy Carroll.
It was game over five minutes into the second-half when Kompany fired in Edin Dzeko’s knockdown to send the Man City faithful into the famous Poznan.
Joe Hart was rarely tested throughout and even the removal of Yaya Toure due to injury with five minutes to go could not spoil the party, as City once again became the best club in the country.
Fans ran onto the pitch at the final whistle to begin the celebrations and complete what has been a dream season in Manchester.
