‘No room’ in sport for Scudamore’s comments

Minister for Sport and Equalities Helen Grant has criticised Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore after the publication of private emails which contained “completely unacceptable” jokes about women.

Scudamore issued an apology on Sunday for the “inappropriate” content in the emails after they were published in a national newspaper.

Grant though looked upon the emails unfavourably in issuing a rebuke and vowing to stamp out discrimination in sport.

She said: “I found the content of those emails completely unacceptable and very disappointing, particularly at a time when there is so much good work and progress being made promoting women’s sport.

“I am determined to do all I can to help tackle all forms of discrimination in sport.

“There is absolutely no place for it and all of us working in sport need to pull together on the issue.

“There is no room for complacency.”
