Morning Star heroes raise £1,000 since Saturday's launch

A remarkable £1,000 has been raised for the Summer of Heroes campaign since its Saturday launch.

With readers, supporters and activists out on the streets of Britain campaigning in the Euro elections, fighting the bedroom tax, picketing ATOS offices with the disabled and taking on the racists and fascists in our communities, donations big and small were flying into the Morning Star.

The first week of the campaign coincided with yesterday’s sickening news that Britain's wealthiest are now “worth” £519 billion.

The success of these parasites is thanks to their friends in the ConDem Government.

Meanwhile the ordinary people of Britain, who make up our readers and supporters dug deep becoming instant Morning Star Summer Heroes.

Our donations ranged from £2 to £200.

Campaigns Organiser David Peel said:

"Frankly it is humbling. What we are receiving means more to us and the entire labour and trade union movement than any behind-the-scenes billionaire's bung to the Tories.

Yesterday's Summer Heroes roll of honour: £20 from Lancashire, £22 Glasgow, £40 Bathgate, £80 Richmond and Kensington, £100 Southend, £50 Tower Hamlets, £30 St Helens, £20 Norwich, £576.50 in standing orders and £2, £20, £25, £10, £10, £20 in recurring donations.

The target is £150,000. We have received £1,000 in a weekend. The campaign momentum can only start to pick up speed.

David Peel added:

“Let the billionaires look after the billionaires. Our faith is in the millions or ordinary British people. Keep supporting the Morning Star, it is your newspaper, and the only one that stands up for you”
