Oxford uni NUS membership vote voided over 'vote-rigging'

A REFERENDUM over Oxford University Students’ Union (OUSU) membership of the National Union of Students (NUS) has been ruled void after vote-rigging was uncovered.

OUSU made the announcement on Wednesday a week after students apparently voted to leave NUS.

The campaign to quit, led by Tory youth leader Jack Matthews, received 1,780 votes compared to the 1,652 for remaining in NUS.

It has since been discovered that a thousand voter ID codes never assigned to students were used to vote in the online ballot for the campaign to leave.

An investigation by university authorities has uncovered that the votes were cast using specialist software and have all been traced to the same computer.

Students are expected to vote for reaffliliation to NUS when OUSO president Tom Rutland presents a motion to the union’s general meeting in two weeks time.
