TSSA Conference ’18 Transport workers vote to stand up to racism

TRANSPORT workers union TSSA agreed to affiliate to Stand Up To Racism at the union’s annual conference yesterday.

Dave Barnes, from Network Rail London South branch, told conference that last weekend’s march of fascist thugs in London was “a wake-up call for us all.”

He pointed the finger squarely at PM Theresa May’s hostile environment, which he branded “a deliberate policy, a racist policy, to install a position that says migrants and others are responsible for the reduction of public services. It is an absolute lie and a crime.”

Mr Barnes said that “the Tories’ racist agenda has created a fertile environment for racists to build,” adding: “This is a very dangerous situation and we need to mobilise and support all of those that will seek to stand up.

“The trade union movement needs to have a response to the way in which the racists are organising. We need to have more numbers than them. That is the critical thing.”
