SNP council forced to reverse cuts after blowing thousands on Loch Lomond jolly

AN SNP council voted down an attempt to reverse cuts to park-keeping today — after splashing out £2,250 on a speed-boating jolly on Loch Lomond.

Trade unionists and anti-cuts campaigners gathered outside West Dunbartonshire Council’s headquarters on Tuesday.

The council was forced into a humiliating U-turn in April over its plans to cut facility time for staff union reps.

Budget cuts have slashed £660,000 from “Greenspace” work, including the cutting of grass in local parks.

Earlier this week, the SNP administration revealed a plan to plough £240,000 into the service, secured from the Scottish government after criticism of the cuts. But a significant shortfall remains.

A motion supported by Labour and Community Party councillors at the meeting on Tuesday afternoon sought to use reserves to plug the gap while the council awaits the government funds.

This was voted down by SNP and Tory councillors.

The development came after the council said it “regretted” sending 35 staff from its criminal justice social work office on a “team-building” exercise.

The £2,250 jolly included lunch and speedboating on Loch Lomond, the Clydebank Post reported.
