Acas workers to walk out over 'unmanageable' workloads

WORKERS at the government-funded Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (Acas) are set to walk out on strike today over downgrading of work and unmanageable workloads.

The 24-hour stoppage could be followed by more strikes next month.

The civil servants’ union (PCS) says workloads soared after public service union Unison won a Supreme Court ruling against the government’s imposition of fees for the right to take cases to the Employment Tribunal.

PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka said: “Despite months of talks, our conciliator members at Acas feel they have no choice but to take strike action.

“It really has come to something when people who run a conciliation service can’t negotiate effectively with their own workforce.

“Hopefully this action will show Acas management that PCS members are serious about the real issues that need to be resolved.

“Two more days of strike are scheduled in June if management fail to listen.”
