Pearce still in negotiations with old club Forest

Forest boss Billy Davies was sacked by owner and chairman Fawaz Al Hasawi last week

Stuart Pearce has confirmed he is still talking with Nottingham Forest about becoming the club's new manager.

The former England Under-21s coach, a fans' favourite during a 12-year playing career at Forest, tactfully turned down the job following initial talks last week, citing family reasons.

Previous boss Billy Davies was sacked by Forest owner and chairman Fawaz Al Hasawi last week and Pearce appears to have made a u-turn.

"I'm still chatting with Nottingham Forest," Pearce said.

"That will continue. That's the best I can say at the moment.

"Forest have always been well supported whatever league they've been in, there's a rich history there.

"It's a great club and one that's very close to my heart."

It had been reported on Tuesday that the former Forest defender was ready to take up the role at the end of the season.

Pearce, who spent two years as Manchester City boss before becoming England Under-21s coach in 2007, was first approached by Forest following former Leed's boss Neil Warnock's decision to turn the job down.

He also managed the Team GB side at the 2012 London Olympics and following the resignation of England manager Fabio Cappello, took charge of the national side for two friendlies.

Forest have admitted they are also interested in former West Ham and Watford manager Gianfranco Zola, ex-England manager Glenn Hoddle and former Watford and Cardiff manager Malky Mackay

The club currently lie seventh in the Championship, two points adrift of a play-off place with seven games remaining.
