FORMER prosecutor Iain Farrimond, who tried to kill his wife, was struck off at the High Court yesterday.
Mr Farrimond was jailed for six years for attempted murder in September 2016 after he stabbed his wife as she slept before trying to kill himself.
Nottingham Crown Court heard Mr Farrimond had been suffering from depression brought on by the pressures of his work for the Crown Prosecution Service.
Despite his conviction, a disciplinary tribunal suspended him indefinitely, finding that he might recover and be fit to practise again.
The Solicitors Regulation Authority’s appeal against that sanction was upheld and Mr Farrimond was struck off the roll of solicitors.
Mr Justice Garnham said he shared the tribunal’s “optimism” that Mr Farrimond might recover but it was “right and necessary” for him to be struck off.
Lord Justice Leveson added that it was “simply inconceivable that a prisoner … should be able to describe himself as a solicitor and officer of the court.”
