THE government and the EU Council need to “work flat out” so that Brexit negotiations can move on to discussing trade by next month’s deadline, Labour shadow Brexit secretary Keir Starmer said yesterday.
British people and businesses are “no clearer” about what the future holds for them because there has been “no acceleration” in the latest round of talks, he said.
The EU’s chief negotiator Michel Barnier said that “some progress” had been made in the talks but more needed to be done — including agreeing a sum for the “divorce bill” — so that a trade deal can be discussed at the next summit planned for December 14-15.
Meanwhile, Theresa May has decided to write the precise time of Brexit into law: 11pm on March 29 2019.
