'We abducted your girls,' admits Boko Haram leader

ISLAMIST extremist group Boko Haram admitted responsibiity today for the abduction of 276 schoolgirls in Nigeria on April 14.

“I abducted your girls,” Islamist group’s leader Abubakar Shekau said.

“I will sell them in the market.”

Reports had previously circulated that some of the missing girls have already been sold as brides across Nigeria’s border with Chad and Cameroon for as little as £7.

Government responses were mixed. Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan ordered that “everything must be done” to free the girls.

But his wife Patience ordered the arrest of two leaders of a protest demanding more action to free the girls. After being released, Saratu Angus Ndirpaya, a community leader from Chibok, where the kidnapping took place, said Patience Jonathan had abused her and fellow protest leader Naomi Mutah Nyadar, expressed doubts there was any kidnapping and accused them of belonging to Boko Haram.

Ms Nyadar was still being detained, she said.
