Carli Lloyd refused to close the door on a return to Manchester City yesterday, tipping the Citizens to improve this summer after narrowly missing out on the Spring Series.
The current Fifa world player of the year will return to Houston Dash after joining Nick Cushing’s side in February.
Lloyd hit the ground running and helped City win the FA Cup, where she scored in the final, and reach the Champions League semi-finals.
“I’ve had an amazing experience here,” she told City’s website. “It’s been absolutely fantastic on so many different levels.
“I’m super proud I could be part of it.
“Getting to compete in the Champions League was definitely something really special and playing at Wembley and winning that trophy was pretty surreal and awesome.
“I’m not closing any doors at the moment. I’ve had a fantastic experience here and really enjoyed it.
“I wish the team all the best. It’s going to be weird to move on and jump back in with my Houston Dash team but I’m looking forward to it.”
It wasn’t to be for the club in the Spring Series, with Chelsea taking the trophy on goal difference and Lloyd is proud of what her and her teammates achieved.
“I know City will be back and wanting to win next season.
“I don’t think it’s frustrating [not to win the Spring Series]. Of course, we wanted to win it but the team can hold their head high.
“We did really well. There were a lot of matches crammed into a short amount of time but we came away as FA Cup champions and it was a bittersweet moment in the Champions League.”
