Bakers renew the struggle for a socialist rule book

LABOUR should reinstate a historic public ownership clause to the party’s rule book, bakers demanded yesterday.

Food union BFAWU conference passed a motion calling for the party to reverse the removal of clause four carried out by Tony Blair during his early years at the helm.

Wigan delegate Janet Phillips said: “The war criminal Tony Blair was also so arrogant he thought he could also get rid of clause four. We should keep what’s precious in this country ours.”

The conference also condemned Labour for suspending members from the party during last year’s leadership election.

BFAWU general secretary Ronnie Draper was suspended for using the word “traitor” in a tweet and re-tweeting a comment referring to Blairites as “scum.”

“It was a right-wing coup to deprive the Labour Party of the most caring democratic socialist leader we’ve had in living memory,” Mr Draper told the hall.

“They used spurious reasons to bar, expel, suspend. It did little for Owen Smith’s [Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership rival] campaign, and it did even less for party unity.”
